WORDS
After years of filling notebooks, Madeleine finally enrolled on a memoir writing course with Miranda Doyle at the Faber Academy in 2020. Her first submission to the course, The Living Years, reached the penultimate stages of Spread The Word’s Life Writing Prize, and the following year A Song Less Travelled also found its way to the special mentions list in the competition’s final year. Madeleine first writer’s paycheck arrived when Aperitivo was published online in 2021 by the independent Arch Street Press.
Madeleine has since written on life writing courses with Marin Sardy and Lilly Dancyger at Catapult, New York, and at The Arvon Foundation, UK with Laura Barton, Travis Elborough, Katherine Norbury, Laura Cumming and Horatio Clare, and is in the process of completing her first book.

“Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear. Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking. Start with voice trembling but start. Start and don’t stop. Start where you are, with what you have. Just... start.”
